air berlin tailairberlin announced its plans to strengthen its long-haul network to the United States with more weekly flights and new destinations. The carrier will expand its flight frequencies by up to 50 per cent from 55 weekly to 78 weekly nonstop flights from Berlin and Düsseldorf in summer 2017.

This network improvement proves the increasing importance of the hubs in Berlin-Tegel and Dusseldorf that offer a long-haul network to North America and the Caribbean in addition to connections from and via Abu Dhabi to Australia and Asia.

orlando downtownOrlando will be launched as a new destination on May 6, 2017, departing five times per week from airberlin’s expanding Dusseldorf hub. Together with Miami, Fort Myers and the new destination Orlando, airberlin’s Florida portfolio now encompasses flights to a total of three destinations in the Sunshine State. Stefan Pichler, Chief Executive Officer airberlin, said: “Orlando is a valuable addition to our existing strong Florida-portfolio because the city is a major convention destination, which bears a high potential in the business travel segment.”

boston skylineThe network expansion also includes the newly launched routes from Dusseldorf to Boston and San Francisco that will be increased from four weekly (Dusseldorf to Boston) and five weekly flights (Dusseldorf to San Francisco) to a daily service each. Together with the flights to Orlando, this is increasing the airline’s number of weekly flights from Dusseldorf to the US by 24 per cent in comparison of the previous year.

The Berlin hub will also see a significant increase as the number of weekly flights to the US will increase by 93 per cent in 2017. Both Californian destinations San Francisco and Los Angeles will be operated from the airline’s growing Berlin-Tegel hub from the beginning of May 2017 with four and three weekly flights respectively, adding up to a total of eleven weekly flights to San Francisco and a total of ten weekly flights to Los Angeles from Dusseldorf and Berlin combined.

Miami south beachFlights from Berlin to Miami will be a year-round nonstop service as of this winter – four weekly flights in winter and three during summer in addition to the daily flights from Dusseldorf.

The very popular flights from Berlin to New York (JFK) will be increased by three additional frequencies up to ten flights per week. Together with the existing double daily service from Dusseldorf, travelers can choose from 24 weekly connections with airberlin to the Big Apple from Germany in summer 2017.

Germany's second-largest airline will receive three additional Airbus A330-200 to operate the extended flight program. All aircraft will be equipped with airberlin’s premium long-haul product: 19 seats in the exclusive FullFlat Business Class section and 271 Economy Class seats, including 46 XL Seats, which offer around 20 per cent more legroom.

In total, airberlin flies nonstop to eight US-destinations in summer 2017 from Dusseldorf and Berlin: New York (JFK), Boston, Chicago, Miami, Orlando (new), Fort Myers, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Additional flights from Berlin-Tegel to the US in winter 2016/17

The route expansion to the US already starts this winter: Flights from Berlin-Tegel to Miami will double to four times a week, compared to the winter of 2015/16. With the addition of a connection on Tuesdays, there will be daily flights to New York this coming winter. airberlin will also be adding a Thursday flight to Chicago in the winter which brings the number of weekly flights to a total of five. During the winter, airberlin flies 16 times a week via Berlin to three destinations in the US: Chicago, New York and Miami.

Frequency increase from Dusseldorf to the US in winter 2016/17

airberlin will furthermore resume year-round flights to Los Angeles from Dusseldorf with five weekly flights. In total, airberlin will fly 24 times a week from Dusseldorf to four destinations in the USA: Fort Myers, Miami, New York and Los Angeles.
